Anymore, it seems like there is almost a new workout or diet fad every week. Still, there are certainly staples that have been workout favorites for forever. Cycling, for instance, is a long-time, popular endurance workout for the lower body. Cyclebar has taken this favorite and modernized it. So far, it has been a success. If you are a Northsider, you should check out one of the two Cyclebar locations in the area.

Cyclebar is a national chain of cycling fitness facilities. Workouts are available in one of several daily courses and are led by an instructor. Cyclebar prides itself in its amenities, providing class attendees with special shoes, water bottles and snacks completely free of charge. Cyclebar workouts are a highly-optimized blend of lower body endurance with some occasional focus on upper body strengthening. At Cyclebar, workouts are held in the Cycletheatre, which has rows of bikes and is described as a “part sanctuary, part rock concert.” During workouts, the Cycletheatre uses a sensational combination of lights, audio and video, which encourage riders to push themselves. The Cycletheatre also has a live scoreboard, which displays rotations per minutes, power and resistance level of every rider in the room. Some riders use this as an opportunity to compete with others to push themselves even harder. Following their workouts, riders are sent an email with a fitness summary, which provides general statistics like calories burned and average heart rate.

Cyclebar classes are purchased using “credits,” which can be bought with cash or credit. There are many different types of packages for credits available. For one, there is an unlimited credits package that costs $99.00 for the first month and then $149.00 for each month afterwards. For those looking for less of a commitment, there are various packages that range in size from one credit up to 30 credits. All credit packages have expiration dates, but the larger credit packages generally have a longer shelf life. Additionally, it is more economic to purchase the larger credit packages. The cost per ride decreases as packages increase in size.

Free Class

Prospective members of Cyclebar are welcome to try out a free, 30-minute class. This allows any Northsiders to get a taste of Cyclebar before they make a financial commitment. Check out the Cyclebar website for the location nearest you to find out when you can try out a class for free.

Locations and Hours

There are two Cyclebar locations in the Indianapolis area, and they are both located on the Northside. One location is in Traders Point near the 86th Street exit of for I-465. The other location is in Carmel at 12697 Pennsylvania Street. Hours for each location are entirely dependent on when classes are scheduled for each day. Generally, there are anywhere from three to six classes per day, and they are held as early as 6:00am and as late as 7:00pm. The Cyclebar has a full class schedule for each Northsider location.
