Fall 2017 At Beasleys Orchard
Believe it or not, apple picking season is right around the corner. Central Indiana doesn’t have a whole of choices when it comes to apple farms. That said, there are still plenty of great places in the area. While most Northsiders have probably visited Stuckey’s or Spencer Farm, some may not know anything about Danville’s Beasley’s Orchard. Beasley’s has a lot of plans for Fall 2017.
While Lodi apples can be picked in early July, apple season doesn’t really take off until August. In the beginning to middle parts of the month, Paula Red and Ginger Gold are available. Gala apples, which are typically popular, are available at the end of the month.
Most apples are ready for picking in September. At the beginning of the month, visitors to Beasley’s Orchard will find Honeycrisp, Jonalicious, McIntosh and Jonathon apples all ready for the picking. A week or two later, Melorse, Cortland, Blushing Golden and Cortland apples are typically ready for picking. By the end of the month, Jonagold and Golden Delicious are usually available. Generally, the middle to end of the month of September is the best time of year to hit up the apple orchard.
Octobers are another busy month in the apple season. A total of seven different types of apples come to maturity in October. Ida Red, Winesap and Mutsu are typically ready in the first couple of weeks of the month. By the end of the month, Fuji, Cameo, Goldrush and Braeburn apples are all ready for picking. October is also a great time to visit Beasley’s Orchard because pumpkins and gourds will be ready for Halloween. In October, Beasley’s Orchard even has a corn maze. For the last weekend of the corn maze, visitors can even bring their dogs along to join in the fun. In addition to the corn maze, vendors, music and other activities are usually present at Beasley’s Orchard throughout the month.
Things really slow down after Halloween. Typically, most apples have already matured, but, occasionally, Goldrush and Fuji apples may mature in early November. Some apples from October should still be available for picking. Still, by the end of the month, Beasley’s Orchard will be preparing for Christmas. They sell Christmas trees for the Holidays.
While visitors can’t pick them out of the ground, Beasley’s Orchard has high-quality selections of produce throughout the year. Peaches, plums, onions, watermelon and other types of produce are available at various times of the year at Beasley’s country market. The market also has apple cider, popcorn, maple syrup and other types of sweets available throughout the year.
