There’s no better time to consider relocating to Carmel, IN! Business is booming, retail and shopping options continue to expand, and you’d be super close to the capital city! Sounds amazing, right? As you prepare for your move, here are five important questions to consider as you bring your family (or yourself) to this popular Indianapolis suburb.

Where should I live?

Carmel is home to some of Indiana’s most expensive and most beautiful homes. However, the majority of Carmel’s housing falls below the national average. If you’re looking to buy, there are homes in subdivisions and other manufactured neighborhoods, as well as homes along many of Carmel’s main streets. You’ll also find several options for rent - apartments and homes.

What about the community?

Carmel is growing quickly - it’s one of the fastest growing cities in the state. Carmel is also home to an award-winning school system and an amazing library in the center of town. You’ll also find a top-notch performing arts center and a very well-kept parks & recreation complex. If you’re interested in being a part of a faith-based community, Carmel is home to a variety of places to worship.

What about shopping?

Carmel isn’t far from anything you’ll need. A plethora of big box discount stores, shopping malls, and even small boutiques are within the community or a short drive. Carmel is also very close to the northside shopping areas of Indianapolis, including The Fashion Mall at Keystone and Castleton Square.

Is Carmel safe?

Probably one of the safest places you could ever move to! According to, Carmel is considered to be safer than 90% of other cities in the USA. While no place is 100% perfect, Carmel is a safe place to live.

What about the traffic?

Depending on where you’re traveling to and from, you may encounter one of the infamous Carmel roundabouts. As a way to eliminate the need for traffic lights, these roundabouts have been a great way to make busy intersections a little bit safer. Traffic in the city itself isn’t unbearable, but traffic to some of the more popular employment hubs will require some extra time from door-to-door. Example: While the mileage from Carmel to downtown Indianapolis doesn’t seem like much, the stop and go traffic during rush hours can add up to a sizeable commute time. Plan for 45 minutes to an hour if you work in the downtown area.
