It’s been a wild winter here in Indianapolis so far! Rain and thunderstorms, but then days of bitter windchill that keep the kids out of school! Who knows what to expect anymore with these fluctuating weather patterns? That said, if you’re suffering from cabin fever and need to get outside and do something, or maybe you just love the outdoors during winter, we’ve got the perfect list of things for you to try during these chilly months!

Outdoor Events at Eagle Creek Park

If you’ve got little ones that need to get outside, the Earth Discovery Center at Eagle Creek Park has plenty of planned outdoor excursions for you to enjoy. Whether it’s a Hike & Seek, Story Time on the Reservoir, or a Friday Night Frog Watch, there’s something that will fit into your schedule!

Topgolf

Want to play golf but the weather isn’t cooperating? Head to Topgolf instead! It’s an all-weather facility with heaters in the winter and fans in the summer. Reserve a bay, order some food & beverages, and then hit some golf balls!

Orchids at Newfields

It might be dreary and dismal around Indy these days, but the Orchids on display at Newfields may be the perfect antidote. Go indoors to enjoy a little spring! Orchids are installed in different gallery spaces at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and in the Elder Greenhouse. The exhibition continues until March 3rd and is included with the cost of admission.

Maple Syrup Season at Southeastway Park

This particular event is recurring and runs from mid-February to mid-March. Bundle up and head outside to learn more about how maple syrup is produced at one of Indy’s local parks! Plan to be outside for the 90-minute program.

Take in the Night Sky at Holcomb Observatory

Into star gazing but not up to the task of being outside to do it? Head over to Butler University for telescope viewing. The observatory is one of the largest public observatories in the world and offers a fully immersive 3D experience at a great price.

If this strange winter weather has you confused about what to do, don’t worry! Indianapolis has you covered on a mix of outdoor & indoor activities to try out. If you prefer to stay warm indoors or aren’t afraid of bundling up to go outside, rest assured that there is still something to keep you entertained during these long winter months.
