Summer Exhibits At The Indiana State Museum

At least for the moment, the summer heat feels pretty nice for Northsiders, but, eventually, it will get a little old. To get the kids out of the summer heat, consider visiting the Indiana State Museum this summer and enjoy the air conditioning. This summer, the Indiana State Museum has a few interesting and unique exhibits planned, and they will certainly excite the kids.



Major Summer Exhibits

The Indiana State Museum has plenty of exciting exhibits that will be open at various times throughout the rest of year. Currently, there is a display on Level 1 commemorating the Indiana Pacers. This exhibit celebrates the Pacers’ 50 years of existence and its success in both the ABA and NBA. It will be open until June 18th, so Northsiders should see it before it is gone. Meanwhile, another exhibit, called “Pulp: Works on Paper” is also currently running at the Indiana State Museum, and it will be there until June 18th as well. “Pulp: Works on Paper” explores the role of paper in the various disciplines of art. This exhibit, located on Level 3, has 26 pieces of art from the Indiana State Museum and Historic sites private collection. Visitors to the Indiana State Museum can also see “Ice Age Graveyards” between now and September 4th. Located on Level 3 with “Pulp: Works on Paper,” this exhibit is filled with information about mastodons and mammoths, and it will thrill the kids. Finally, there is a World War I exhibit at the Indiana State Museum that will run until November 11th. This one specifically honors the Hoosier State’s role in World War I. 


Admission

Admission is the same price every day of the week. Adults are $13.00, and kids between the ages of three and 17 are $8.50. Children under the age of three are admitted free of charge. Seniors, visitors 60 years of age and older, receive a $1.00 discount off adult admission. Students from an Indiana college or university that present a valid college ID are admitted for just $9.75. Visitors can additionally package admission with a IMAX movie pass and receive a $2.00 discount. Northsiders may also want to consider a membership. Members are admitted free of charge. 


Location and Hours

The Indiana State Museum is in White River State Park along the Canal Walk on West Washington Street. It is open every day of the week until 5:00pm. On weekdays and Saturdays, it opens promptly at 10:00am. On Sundays, it opens its doors at 11:00am. The Indiana State Museum is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. On other holidays, the Indiana State Museum may have shortened hours. This summer, the Indiana State Museum will also be closed on June 12th.
