The JCC Of Indianapolis
Central Indiana residents will tell any outsider that community is very important to them. For this reason, among others, there are many great community outreach programs and facilities spread throughout the entirety of the Greater Indianapolis area. While Indianapolis certainly has many great community centers across the city, the JCC of Indianapolis is one of the best within proximity to Northside residents.
Brief History and Values
The Arthur M. Glick JCC has been in operation for over 100 years. Officially, it was founded in 1914, and it was originally located at the intersection of 23rd Street and Meridian Street. Since its founding, the JCC has not changed a whole lot. The JCC aims to educate and preserve Jewish heritage through the celebration of arts, health, education and wellness programs. Commitment, community, connections, integrity, welcoming and wellness are its six core values.
Classes and Programs
The JCC of Indianapolis has several great classes open to JCC members. There are adult fitness classes, dance classes and adult aquatics. Additionally, there are rec sports leagues and health and wellness opportunities. Adults should also consider one of several continuing education courses. There have been courses for lifeguarding, yoga instruction and calligraphy among others at the JCC. Classes and programs are available for members of all ages. Members do not have to be Jewish to join the JCC. In fact, JCC members represent many different cultural and religious backgrounds. Between November 28, 2016, and January 31, 2017, prospective members can join the JCC for just $1.00. After joining, members must pay a monthly fee. Families joining after December 1st of this year have a monthly fee of $108.00. Membership for a single adult between the ages of 26 and 64 is just $65.00 per month. Students and young adults between the ages of 16 and 25 pay just $46.00 per month to retain JCC membership. A full list of membership rates is available on the JCC website.
Hours and Location
The JCC of Indianapolis is located at 6701 Hoover Road in Indianapolis. The building is open between 5:30am and 10:00pm Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the JCC again opens at 5:30am, but it closes early at 6:00pm. The JCC is open on both Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm. The pool and waterpark have special hours. A list of these special hours is available on the JCC website. Generally, the JCC is either closed or has limited hours on most major Jewish and federal holidays.
