With the doldrums of winter in the rearview mirror, Indianapolis-area residents are almost begging to be outdoors constantly. Luckily, the Greater Indianapolis area is home to a number of great, outdoor fun runs and other running and walking events. Each one is unique, and Indianapolis area residents will almost certainly find something right for them.

Brew HaHa Metazoa Craft Run 5K

The Brew HaHa Metazoa Craft Run 5K is a run and walk held on Sunday, April 24th. It is held by Metazoa Brewing Company, which is located just north of the Fountain Square area near Downtown Indianapolis. Because the event is hosted by a brewing company it is only for adults at least 21 years of age. Following the race, participants can enjoy a Metazoa Brewing Company craft beer or a gourmet coffee. There is also popcorn and pretzels for participants following the race. Participants in this race get a medal and a shirt.

The Indy Ultimate

On April 30th, the Saturday following the Brew HaHa Metazoa Craft Run 5K, the Central Indiana Community Foundation is hosting The Indy Ultimate, perhaps the most unique fun run in Indianapolis this spring. This fun run passes through Indianapolis landmarks like Lucas Oil Stadium, Victory Field and the Indiana State Museum. Additionally, there will be an obstacle course in the American Legion Mall. Art activities are also available on the Canal Walk. Participants are encouraged to pick up their race packets on Friday, April 29th, between the hours of 11:00am and 7:00pm.

OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon

This race, held on Saturday, May 7th, at 7:30am in Downtown Indianapolis, is easily Indianapolis’ most famous running and walking race. This will be the 40th time it will be held. The race starts in Downtown Indianapolis near Washington Street and West Street. During the run, participants will make their way out to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and do a complete lap around the track before heading to the finish line on New York Street. Participants are awarded a medal and ribbon, and they will receive a long-sleeve shirt, snacks and drinks. The first 500 finishers will receive a special “First 500” medal.

Color Dash 5K

On May 14th, there will be a color run held at Paramount School of Excellence, which is located at 3020 Nowland Avenue in Indianapolis. Runners will follow a path that snakes around the grounds of Paramount School of Excellence and Brookside Park. Every kilometer, runners are blasted with, non-toxic, food-grade color powder packets, guaranteed to cover everything and everyone in color. The race is held in coordination with the neighborhood’s Brookside Bash.
