With this record late-summer heat, it may be hard to believe that fall is just around the corner. What's the best way to welcome fall once it decides to finally arrive? Picking apples, of course! Indianapolis is surrounded with great options for a morning or afternoon of apple picking fun! Get out your tall boots, sweaters, and scarves and stock up for the season!

Tuttle Orchards - Greenfield, IN: A little east of the city, you'll find Tuttle Orchards with a rich history of growing apples, pumpkins and plants! They've been owned and operated by the same family since 1928, so they're doing something right! Join them for apple picking, the pumpkin patch, watching the bees, a corn maze, and other fall family fun!

Pleasant View Orchard - Fairland, IN: Southeast of the metro area, Pleasant View Orchard is a great stop to pick your apples! Pick a variety of apples, plus visit their country store to purchase local products and some of the tastiest apple-themed items you can find. Did we mention that they also have homemade fudge? Don't skip that!

Beasley's Orchard - Danville, IN: A one-stop shop to pick your apples, strawberries, and pumpkins! Take a tour,  visit the corn maze, take a hayride, and shoot an apple cannon. There's plenty to enjoy, no matter your age!

Stuckey Farm - Sheridan, IN: For 50 years, Stuckey Farm has offered visitors fresh apples, vegetables, and ciders. In 2019, they offer plenty of fall festival fun that includes a corn maze, wagon rides, and pig races! A great option for a full day of fun for the whole family.

McClure's Orchard - Peru, IN: Come pick some apples on the weekend, but don't forget to enjoy some of the offerings of their winery. Aside from the apples you pick, you can also try (and purchase) a variety of hard ciders, apple wines, and fruit wines. Visit the Apple Barn to purchase pre-picked apples and check out the cafe' for a variety of dishes and desserts.

Anderson Orchard - Moorseville, IN: Not only can you pick apples, but get ready to pick raspberries, plums, pumpkins, and chestnuts while you're there! Visit their Apple Barn for produce and fresh apple cider, caramel apples, fondues, elephant ears, fried biscuits, apple pies, and hot dogs.
